OUR HISTORY
BACKGROUND HISTORY TO MALDON ROAD CHAPEL
The original building was constructed in 1933 and the rear extension added in 1976. It was originally occupied by a Brethren Assembly which was thriving. However, it's congregation began to dwindle due to age, and by 2013, the trustees were seeking the Lord's leading on what to do next. The building was put on the market, and a non-Christian organisation offered the full asking price. But God had His own plans for continued Gospel work at Maldon Road Chapel, and after earnest prayers for guidance the trustees were informed about Church Growth Trust (CGT) in early 2014. CGT met with the trustees and explained their heart to save properties such as this for Gospel use and how the Lord had provided evangelical churches to occupy other empty buildings around the country. The trustees were delighted and by the end of May, knowing that they were acting in the mind and will of the Lord, the property was gifted to CGT.
The building went through various transitions following this, until a new church plant was established by Suffolk-based evangelist and colporteur John McCarthy in 2020. Elijah Lamb was appointed as pastor in 2021, and Gary Stevens as co-pastor in 2022. Together with John they are heading up the work at Maldon Road Chapel with a vision to make it a vibrate caring and loving community working within Colchester to transform lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ and bring about lasting joy and glory to God.
